At Lady Liberty Academy Charter School we provide our students, Kindergarten through eighth grade, with the necessary tools to become independent readers and writers through the workshop models.

Both models are very similar in their components, Readers and Writers Workshop consists of a brief mini lesson where a skill is taught, independent time - teacher conference with students individually, and concludes with share time.

Readers Workshop
Readers Workshop gives students tools for selecting and comprehending "just right" literature, students who were once reluctant to read now find themselves with the skills needed to be successful readers. Over the course of the year, students read many books and are encouraged to do as

Independent Reading is a significant component of reader's workshop. During independent reading time, the teacher engages in student conferences on an individual or group basis. Teachers can also engage in guided reading with groups of students.

Writers Workshop
Writers Workshop is designed for use in all grade levels. Each grade level has specific units of study tailored to meet developmental and curricular needs. Students have a large amount of choice in their topic and style of writing. The teacher acts as a mentor author, modeling writing techniques and conferring with students as they move through the writing process.
